Pop-A-Shot Cabinet

Corona Del Mar, CA

This project started with a simple idea: create a basketball arcade game that looked like it actually belonged in the room.

Designed by Prairie Interiors, this custom cabinet conceals a fully functional Pop-A-Shot-style game behind a pair of oversized doors. Open the cabinet and the game unfolds into a dual-hoop basketball arcade complete with custom walnut inlay backboards and repurposed game electronics. Close it up, and it becomes a clean, furniture-style cabinet that blends into the space.

As one of the first projects Silverado Woodshop completed together, it challenged us to think beyond traditional cabinetry and find creative ways to combine function, craftsmanship, and fun. It's still one of the most unique pieces we've had the opportunity to build.

Materials

The cabinet was constructed from plain-sawn white oak and finished in a rich custom green paint selected by the designer. To create the basketball backboards, custom walnut inlays were incorporated into the white oak panels, adding warmth and visual contrast to the interior of the piece.

The original Pop-A-Shot electronics and game components were integrated into the cabinet, while a custom fabric provided by the designer was used for the ball return system. Leather strap handles were selected for the doors, giving the cabinet a distinctive furniture-inspired appearance when closed.

Soft-close hinges were used throughout, ensuring smooth and quiet operation while maintaining the refined feel of the finished piece.
